What Is Minimalist Business?
To me, minimalist living means having less stuff and fewer obligations on your time.
So minimalist business means running your business with less stuff and fewer obligations on your time.
It means when you start work in the morning, you don’t have 10 things to do today, but maybe 3, or maybe 1 – and consequently, you do them better, and you enjoy them more.
It means applying the 80/20 principle to your work, getting 80% of the benefits with just 20% of the effort (or several times the benefits with 100% of the effort).
It means having time for hobbies, health, family and friends.
It means simplifying.
Who Am I?
My name is Phil. I’ve been starting and running small businesses since 2005, gradually simplifying how I run my businesses.
I’m not a minimalist business expert, but while my business could be much more minimalist than it is, I’ve learned a few things over the years and I’m inspired by the idea of simplifying my business and my life.
I run SmilingGardener.com for about 5 hours/week on average, and when I’m not doing that, I help other small business owners increase their profit while minimalizing their business and decreasing their overwhelm.
I’m part marketing consultant and coach, part entrepreneur, part website developer, part creative.
My purpose with the work I do is ultimately to improve the health of people and the planet.
I have a vision of a world where the majority of the things we do with our time, including the products and services we offer, are in line with that purpose.
To move closer to his vision, I coach and consult with small business owners who are offering these types of products and services.
When I’m not working, I like to go for bike rides, exercise and read books. I’m an introvert. A vegan. A Canadian (Toronto). An organic gardener. General avoider of social media. Into ice cream sandwiches.
